FOUND! artist Lin Martin is a long time friend, once-upon-a-time work colleague, and fellow artist-in-isolation. Lin has taught me much about words over the years, and has helped me craft the questions I plan to ask other fellow artists-in-isolation over the coming weeks and months.
Lin’s work spans 40+ years and she’s always shown me it’s okay to be like a dog with a bone when pursuing an idea, and have a bloomin’ good lie down when you’re done or if it’s not working. We both think it’s funny and, as it turns out, essential to have these ferals in our studio lives. We continue to love the exchange of stories about our studio days and all of its beasts.
Lin, what is your art practice?
I am a photographer, now primarily making artist books.
Who are your studio companions?
Zeze 12 and India 6 – two female fox terrier mongrels that I lurve to bits.
What are you working on in your studio now?
The early stages of compiling material for a couple of small artist books. Including ideas for my contribution for FOUND!
How has the current imposed isolation changed what you’re doing? Has something really surprised you during this transition to ‘artist in quarantine’?
Yes, I am focusing (excuse the pun) on subjects close home and in my garden. I have brushed off my macro equipment and am brushing up macro skills. Am still taking delight in the beauty of the mundane, overlooked and ordinary. Am amazed at how much I see when forced to slow down.
Any special news about your art practice?
Nothing special – except it is ongoing! And always challenging.
